Home Theater Set Up - Exposed Wire                        $139

This Service is for the Simple setup of your New or Existing Home Theater. There is now concealing wires in the wall, instead all wire is exposed. The typical situation that this service would be used for would be a TV on a stand with equipment directly below the TV, Center/Left/Right speakers at or near the TV, subwoofer to side of stand, & wire for rear speakers running along baseboard to rear location. This does not include hanging the speakers (usually the rears), or hiding the wires in the walls for speakers & TV.

We can go further, but an ON-SITE Consult is recommended to spec out the project beforehand.

This install up to 50' of (4) conductor speakerwire for rear speakers, & 10' for each of the front 3 speakers.

What We do:

Home Theater in a Box System

  • Sit down & go over what you want, & where it's going. We may make recommendations that would allow for better performance such as viewing angle, sun glare, speaker placement, & echo.
  • We will unpack & Setup your TV to the on the Stand & Setup the Surround System/Speakers.
  • In the interest of safety, we will examine your stand before using to see if it is suited to your TV and equipment you are placing in it. We will never set up a TV and equipment on a stand that we feel is not sturdy enough or a structurally sound enough to securely hold the weight. If this is determined to be the case, we can discuss alternative options or placement. We also want to make certain your equipment can properly breathe, as heat it the leading cause of equipment failure.
  • Install video & audio cords between your equipment & TV. The wires that come with your equipment can be used but may not provide the best picture and sound. If you have purchased wire, we can use that, otherwise, we do carry the proper wires on the truck for purchase at less than store pricing. We recommend 6' wires (HDMI, Video, Audio) for equipment on a stand, and at least a 10' subwoofer wire.
  • Connect up to 5 video sources (like an HD cable/satellite box, BluRay/DVD player, Wii/Xbox, etc) to your TV & Surround System in one room.
  • Make sure that all the settings for that equipment are set to give the fullest picture & sound to the TV & Surround System.
  • Show you how to use all your stuff with the new TV & Surround System. We will even go into the TV menu & label the inputs, turn off the ones you aren't using & label your remotes. We will also email you a worksheet that lists your TV settings in case visitors start playing with the remote settings or the dog sits on the remote.
  • We will take pictures of the front & back of the equipment & put it in your file so that if you do have a problem, we can usually get you back up & running over the phone. This saves you the price and time of setting up a service call for something simple.
  • While we're there we can also do a TV Calibration for a discount since we are already on site.
  • If you end up with too many remotes, we do carry Harmony Remotes on the truck. You can find out more about this & other options by checking out Install Accessories

Can you Mount a TV over the Fireplace? We get this question all of the time, and the answer is yes. most times we are able to hide the wires in the wall (concealed install), but occasionally, due to the fireplace construction methods used, we may have to use a cover track.

When it comes to fireplaces, we always want to come over & take a look at the condition of the wall and the fireplace. We want to make certain that it can be done safely and that the quote will cover everything that will need to be done, no surprises.

Home Theater Calibration                                      $120

Tuneup your Theater to Perfection

When a manufacturer wraps a TV in a box, they have to assume the worst and figure it will go on display in a showroom, hence they set it up to look good under those conditions. Think about that a second. A showroom is bright & tends to get that light from either florescent or mercury vapor lighting. This light is greenish or pinkish, which sucks the blue from a TV display, screws up the rest of the colors, & tends to wash out the colors. Cameras have had the same problem for years, film came in outdoor & indoor versions & your digital camera has AWB or Auto White Balance.

When you bring that TV into your home, unless you have decorated the room with the equivalent of street lamps, the colors & brightness will be off. Also the signal quality & strength from each video source vary, along with all the menu setting inside those components. Many DVD players, Game Systems etc come out of the box set in "lawyer mode". This means that the volume, sound range etc are limited to prevent damage to other components &

speakers. The systems will work, but not very well, and not to their full potential. There are also many different ways to connect up this equipment as you can tell from those big manuals that come with the equipment. What may be listed as the best way may not be the best for the way you want to use it.

Scared yet? That is NOT the intention. Once you understand that the manufacturers have not been in your house, seen your room, or interviewed you on how you are going to use it, but instead have given you many options to tune it to your needs, you see where we come in. We do all those things that they can not. Think of it as tuning a piano, we tune your Home Theater.

What We Will Do:

  • First, we are going to sit down with you and find out how you are using the system, what annoys you about it, what you like, what you would like it to do, and what you might want to do with it in the future.

  • We will go thru the system menus, component connects, and wires to determine what is going on, document it, then fix it based on what you have told us.

  • We will attach a sensor to the front of your TV and calibrate the colors, grays, tints, brightness, etc to get it as close to how it looked in the lab when they were making the movie.

  • We will use a SPL meter to adjust the volumes and sound at each speaker to get it as close to the sound the sound engineer heard when he mixed the movie.

  • We will sit down with you and play some movie clip, yours & ours to make certain you like what you see & hear. Once you're happy, we will document those readings and give you a copy.

What We Won't Do:

  • Dazzle you with jargon.

  • Make you feel foolish for asking questions.

  • Tell you that you'll have to replace all your stuff just because it isn't brand new & by the way, I just happen to have some on the truck you can have on special price.

We want you to have fun with your Home Theater, that's why it's called entertainment.

PS: No promises on those chocolate chip cookies though.

Project Consult Form

Custom Home Theater Design

Whether you type it Maine Home Custome Theater Design, Maine Custom Home Theater Design, Dedicated Maine Home Theater Design, or just "Really Big Maine Home Theater", it all comes down to the same thing: "I want the theater experience and a 50" or 60" TV just ain't gonna cut it."

Then that voice in your head talks to your pocket book and says "Not happening. Better go buy some lottery tickets."

Not so fast.

For those of you who have looked at the Art Deco Theater Project, you know that this does not have to be the case. Prices on projectors have come down to the range of that 60" TV and picture can be as good as, or frankly better, than that TV.

Custom Home Theater Design can mean many things, from an addition on a house, to converting a basement or attic space, to even just rearranging the furniture in the existing room for better viewing and sound. It all depends on what you have to work with and how far you want to go. This is where the Design portion comes in. Thinking about it before doing it will save you money and a great deal of rolaids.

So the first question is this: How do you go from this?

to This?

to This?

In general, I think a Custom Home Theater Design in Maine refers to a space where the Theater is the primary purpose of the room. Multi-purpose rooms are fine and we do them every day, but when you have a Dedicated Home Theater Room, the room should be set up to best reflect that design intent. A Master Bathroom that is also the Mudroom would be an example of what not to do.

Custom Home Theater Design or should we say Custom Designed Home Theater, should take all these points into consideration:

  • What is the lighting & how will it be controlled?
  • How big of an image are we trying to get?
  • What about seating?
  • Any windows in the space?
  • What are you going to watch?
  • How many people are going to watch at one time?
  • Is noise outside the theater a concern?

Why does it matter?
Room size determines screen size, but it also determines the number of seats available in the room. The more rows, the closer to the screen, the smaller the picture may need to be to provide good picture and room for the speakers. There are designs to maximize this by moving the speakers behind the screen, and getting the equipment out of the room. We can work with you to provide the best balance of all these things in a design that fits your needs and budget.

Did you know that each person puts off the same amount of heat as a 600 BTU heater by just sitting there?

How big an image?

47"

106"

All My Friends

What about seating?

You can start with existing sofas and such, matching slip covers make for a nice effect on a budget, or you can head straight on to the Custom Home Theater Seating.

Both of these companies have a variety of color & combinations. They can be individual seats or combined together to create arcs, loveseats, & just massive 12 person sofas.

What about seating for your equipment?

Don't forget about the equipment, a rack or cabinet is the best way to protect your equipment not only from prying hands but also insures proper ventilation of your equipment.
